Our Mission

Our mission started with online discussions centred around like-minded individuals. Passionate about understanding the internal variations between Iranic-speakers,  we decided to start the Iranic Genomes Project as the means by which to study it.

The purpose of our project is to rectify the lack of study that has taken place towards Iranic-speakers, and to both increase and diversify the volume of samples we have. Prior to our work, there were no publicly available samples for Kurds from Anatolia, Tajiks from Samarkand and Southern Tats from Taleghan in Iran, however as a result of our efforts we have obtained samples from these obscure populations that would otherwise not be examined in any way at all.

Our goal is to overcome political obstacles to real study, by means of grassroots work. We believe this to be the only way forward. There are many ways in which the study of genetics among people who speak a language descended from Old Iranian is both lacking and in poor quality. By collecting more samples, we seek to correct this. We believe that, in time, we will have actually done so.
